MAIN CHARACTERS

FIA FIONN ("Dark-of-peace", "Fair")
Pronunciation: FEE-a FEE-yohne (proper Elfish pron. fə-YA fee-YUHN*) (Note: 'Fie' is pronounced 'FEE')

Hair/eye color: Black; dark red

Being an albino and being an elf, Fia hasn't particularly had an easy life. Elves are rare enough to begin with -- they usually live in family groups away from too many humans, since humans in general don't like or trust these essentially immortal, beautiful folk -- and the ones that do wander into cities usually end up merging with human society for acceptance. Occasionally, they'll get it. An albino elf, however... most people generally look on Fia as a freak. However, he's generally easygoing, and enjoys collecting books.

Fia's never had many friends; Mar and Chait proving to be among his first, he's fiercely protective of them. At times he slips into the role of father figure, or brother, or just 'friend', but manages to combine all of these traits into one whole. Those who have earned his loyalty will never, ever lose it -- but since he's been hated by most people all of his life, very few people will ever know this side of the elf.

*This pronunciation is rarely used in the context of the story, save for a few past-centric issues, and provided here for academic reasons. *grin*

CHAIT DORINDA ("Cat-kin", "Beautiful gift")
Pronunciation: CHAY-t DOR-indah (or DUR-indah, depending on the speaker's accent)

Chait grew up with her aunt, having never known her real parents, and her cousins became surrogate brothers to her. Growing up around boys probably had something to do with her attitude, but there's definitely more of it present than a simple tomboy childhood could account for. She's reckless and always seems to have something to prove. She's self trained in the arts of archery and knife fighting, and loves a good melee.

She gets angry at any mention of being protected (well intentioned though they may be), yet she watches over her friends like a mother wolf. She's also Mar's protégé; one of his requirements for her joining up with he and Fia was that he be allowed to teach the young woman to 'drink like a man'. To this day, she's the only person who can match the swordsman in a drinking contest, and she's got a tongue even worse than his.

MAR NAMIR ("Lord", "Leopard")
Pronunciation: MAR nə-MEER
Age: 33-ish                              Height: 5'11"
Hair/eye color: Black; left brown, right blue

Mar is a young-ish man with a brilliant sword arm and an incredible tolerance for alcohol. He is blind*, but hates talking about his past, so the cause of this has never been made clear. His hearing has improved immensely as a result, and borders on the supernatural. It's better than Fia's -- something he takes great pride in. And has been known to tease the elf about, more than once.

He's a moody fellow, slipping between good cheer and violent anger at a moment's notice. His friendship with Chait and Fia is perhaps the only thing that truly matters to him, and he would likely be lost without them.

*As of the current storyline, Mar is able to see... but you'll have to read the previous bits of story to find out how.

ANTAGONISTS

MIKEL/RAIDNE ("Godlike", "Siren")

A young-looking man who is both handsome and dangerous. Whether he's a human sorcerer or something more isn't 100% known, but one thing is certain -- he's very powerful. He has no morals whatsoever and treats everything like a game. And he'd love to have Chait alone in a locked room...

KINNON CAERAU ("Fair-born", "From the castle")
Pronunciation: KIN-non KAY-rau
Age: 36 Height: 6'3"

A former marauder, from the most dangerous band of men in the Free Realm. Freedom from prison has given him a chance he's always longed for -- to start over -- but the one thing he can never do is forget. He left behind a much better life for banditry, and he will always long for forgiveness -- since there's no way for him to change things, now.

SEDRIHAN (no meaning)

Very little is known about this mysterious figure, except that he got what he deserved.

A supernatural creature supposed to be something akin to a deity. It speaks a human tongue, and seems to be intertwined with Mar's past somehow, though the details are shady.

MUKESH RAJESH ("God of kings" "Lord of the dumb")

Age: unknown Height: 7'6" (Roughly. Slouches a lot.)

MINOR CHARACTERS

LINALACH (no meaning)

The councilman ("mayor") of Saffir Rhyd in the Free Realm. He's in charge of the final say regarding trade, situations affecting the town, etc., but is used to living a spoiled life, is a bit prejudiced, jumps to conclusions, and isn't really that brave when it comes to dealing with bounty hunters.

MAXEN ("Greatest")
Pronunciation: MAX-en
Age: 37-ish                              Height: 5'10"

Kinnon's muscled, compact cellmate in the Saluva prison. While loud and rough in public, he spends his time reading, and is loyal to those who deserve his respect.

Arrogant, monotone, self-assured... He commands servants and some form of magic, and seems to strike a nerve with Mar rather severely...

ARUN ("Sun")

Servant of Raud. A youthful geomancer who seems to have strong ties of loyalty where he chooses to grant it.

IOAN ("Gift of [the gods]")

Servant of Raud. A creature borne of strange circumstances, his blood is that of four different Races -- a dark elf, an elff, a Mahlu, and one of the Four-Armed. The latter two of his ancestors must have met in exile, as the Four-Armed are rarely, if ever, seen outside their trees. Rather bloodthirsty in a cheerful sort of way.

SHAKEH (meaning unknown)

Servant of Raud. It is unknown why a monk serving under the 'light' half of the elf gods (Lunaris the forest goddess, to be specific) would serve one of their 'darker' halves, but there he is. It may be somewhat related to his seeming friendship with Arun.

HAUKE ("Hawk")

Age: 13-ish Height: 5'
Hair/eye color: Golden blonde; hazel

Mar's foster sister; a slightly older, distant cousin. She holds him as dear as a true brother.
